175 Years of Texas Independence!

Today we celebrate a special anniversary for the state of Texas!

On March second, 175 years ago, Texas declared its independence from Mexico and became the Republic of Texas.

On this Day – 2/11/1990 Nelson Mandela freed.

February 11th marks 21 years since Nelson Mandela was released from imprisonment in South Africa.

Christmas around the globe Pt 2: Finland

The Christmas traditions of the Nordic countries (Denmark, Sweden, Finland) have their roots in old Viking festivities, who would celebrate the winter solstice (December 21st). The Fins also celebrated an ‘end of harvest’ festival in November called Kekri, which was incorporated into the holiday season when Christianity arrived in the 12th Century.
